The Astrology of the Winter Solstice

The winter solstice is the longest night of the year, when the daylight hours are at their shortest. It is a day of retreat and reflection but also celebration, an opportunity to light up the darkness with joy and candlelight.

The solstice occurs each year when the sun reaches exactly 0°of Capricorn, so the energies of this important day are inherently linked to the energies of the sign of Capricorn. It’s also linked to the energies of Sagittarius, the sign immediately preceding Capricorn, as Sagittarius season leads us through the darkest part of the year, right up to the winter solstice.

The fire and earth energies of these two contrasting signs meet at the winter solstice and guide us in expanding outside of ourselves and then bringing that expansive wisdom back down to earth.
