8 Witchy Destinations to Visit This Summer

Summer is here and so is vacation season! For many of us, this is the time to get away and escape from reality. If you’re busy planning your summer getaway and you’re looking for a little witchy inspo, this list is for you.

What makes a destination witchy, exactly? Some places have all the history, some places are notoriously haunted and others just have a great, mysterious vibe to soothe your magickal soul.

Let’s dive in, shall we? Today we’re looking at eight witchy destinations where you can relax, soak up the sun and get your magick on.

  1. Salem, Massachusetts: The original witchy travel destination, Salem is infamous for its 1692 witch trials. Though somewhat morbid, the town is actually quite beautiful and is replete with magickal shops, museums and cemeteries.
  2. Edinburgh, Scotland: Home of another infamous series of witch trials in the late Renaissance, Edinburgh is still home to a fairly large pagan community which hosts a spectacular Beltane celebration in early May and a number of witchy sites. If you visit in August, you’ll have to check out the incomparable festivals of all varieties that take place that month.
  3. Glastonbury, England: The famous spiritual pilgrimage site, the Chalice Well, resides in Glastonbury which has a great, artsy pagan population and regular Wheel of the Year celebrations so its a great spot to be for the summer solstice.
  4. Savannah, Georgia: Though rather hot and muggy for the summer months, Savannah is worth a visit for the beautiful scenery, historic walking tours and haunted mansions. Supposedly, Savannah is the most haunted city in America. (This happens to be my own witchy summer vacation spot this year – stay tuned for a travel guide!)
  5. New Orleans, Louisiana: Famous for its voodoo shops, cemeteries, vampire lore and generally witchy atmosphere, New Orleans would make for an excellent (and no doubt delicious) summer vacation.
  6. Mendocino, California: If you’re looking to escape the heat, check out scenic, rural Mendocino on the Pacific Coast. This town perched on a seaside cliff has its fair share of haunted tales, a beautiful little cemetery and some gorgeous, cozy inns.
  7. San Francisco, California: Still cool but significantly more metropolitan, SF is packed with great metaphysical shops, yoga studios and incredible gardens like the Conservatory of Flowers to explore, not to mention the famous Labyrinth at Land’s End for the meditation junkie. Be aware of the truly cool weather though: Mark Twain once famously joked that the coldest winter he ever spent was a summer in San Francisco.
  8. Bali, Indonesia: Returning to warmer climes, Bali is a popular destination for yoga and wellness retreats. If tropical escape with a side of high vibe wellness is in your wheel house, this is the spot for you!

Where are you traveling to this summer? Do you have any other witchy summer vacation destinations that we have to try out?
