De-cluttering seems to be a big trend at the moment. It’s always popular as January and February roll around to clear out the old and make space for the new year, but 2019 is hitting this theme hard with the popularity of Marie Kondo’s new show. Anyone and everyone is cleaning out their closets and getting organized these days.

If you’re in need of spiritual support for your organizing spree, then the Home + Life Transformation Bootcamp is for you! My friend, Esmeralda, of Simply Refreshing Feng Shui, is offering this amazing program to help you create your dream life by clearing your space.

Esmeralda talks about how “we can’t invite things in (love, money, health, clients, experiences, etc.) unless we provide the space for them to come our way.” Wise words, leading us into our releasing ritual for today, which supports the themes of the Home + Life Transformation Bootcamp.

This ritual is designed to help you let go of some of the mental clutter in your mind, so that you are prepared for the transformative power of a program like Esmeralda’s.

Releasing Ritual

Tools and Supplies Needed:

  • Purifying incense, such as sage, pine or cedarwood
  • Candles
  • Yoga mat
  • Paper and pen
  • Fire-safe container, such as a cauldron or pot
  1. Begin by laying out your yoga mat in an area of your home that you feel needs to be cleansed, such as the center of your bedroom or living room, or even an outdoor patio or lawn.
  2. Place candles above the head of the mat or on a nearby altar.
  3. Light the candles and incense.
  4. Sit cross-legged on your mat and take a deep breath, sweeping your arms up over your head, then taking the entire exhale to bring your hands to your heart. Press your fingers together, feeling the weight and pressure of each fingertip and knuckle against the next.
  5. Close your eyes and try to clear your mind. Each time an errant thought tries to distract you, simply greet it, and then imagine it blowing gently away, carried off by incense smoke.
  6. Repeat this process for as long as you need to, until you feel as though your mind is as clear as is possible for today. When you are ready, gently open your eyes.
  7. Lift the incense burner, motioning the smoke first in the direction of each corner of your mat, then in the direction of each corner of the room or area that you sense needs to be cleansed. You could say an incantation here about cleansing the space of negative energy, clutter or chatter.
  8. On the piece of paper, begin to write down all of the things you are releasing. Allow yourself to write automatically, pouring out all those distracting thoughts from earlier.
  9. When you are finished, light the corner of the paper with a match and allow to burn to ashes in a fire-safe container.
  10. Return to sitting cross-legged on your mat if you have moved and sweep your arms overhead again, taking a deep breath, and exhaling as you bring your hands to your heart. Say aloud, “I release what no longer serves me and make space for new, good things.”
  11. Consider repeating this ritual in each room of your home.
