No, really, spring is on its way! We’ve been talking about Imbolc for a few weeks now and it’s finally here. February 1 marks the halfway point between the Winter Solstice, the longest night of the year, and the start of spring. The days are getting longer and spring is on the way.
We’ve talked about Imbolc decorations embracing both winter and spring as well as hearty dishes to eat at your celebration. Over at Arcane Alchemy, I also wrote about making an Imbolc charm bag. Today is about pulling all our efforts together and celebrating!
Light all the white candles I can find in the house. Imbolc is also known as Candlemas – it’s all about lights, fire and coming out of the darkness!
Brew a pot of white tea. It is best if this can be done over a flame, (it is a fire festival, after all), but an electric kettle will work just as well.
Move through a hip-opening yoga sequence. This one is specific to me, as my massage therapist has been telling me I really need to do some hip openers. However, you can think of hip-opening yoga poses as a way to connect with and focus on your reproductive organs, drawing in fertile energy for either procreation or simply for ideas and plans. This fertility is very connected to the energies of Imbolc. At the end of your sequence, lie in savasana pose for a few minutes with a piece of clear quartz resting on your forehead or above your womb.
Make an herbal, milk hand soak and rest your hands in it. Dairy is associated with Imbolc and winter weather often dries out our hands and skin. Combine warm milk with lavender buds or essential oil in a glass bowl and soak your hands for 5-10 minutes. Rinse and pat dry, then massage with soothing lotion.
Put together an Imbolc charm bag, utilizing the clear quartz you rested with earlier. This spell is all about creating a fertile foundation for your current ideas, desires and intentions. Sip the white tea as you work, mixing it with cream if so desired.
